Students in 6th and 7th grade are working on their Civil War Projects using Google Slides. Unit 1: Culinary Math
Final Culinary Project:
Students are going to cook for their family. They have chosen their favorite dish and would like to treat family members to a nice home cooked meal. As students may need an "assistant chef," parents or adults at home are asked to help prepare and assist in safety. We would like to have pictures of students cooking and the meal when it is finished and presented to the family. You can send these pictures to [email protected] Pictures can be taken on any device. Just make sure you put "CMS-Student Name" in the subject line. Or, you can send pictures to school for our next class.
I would like students to write about their cooking experience that would include step-by-step instructions, any recipes, special instructions, and how much fun it was. Parents are encouraged to write a review on, what I am sure to be a JOB WELL DONE!!!!! . I look forward to seeing your family meal.

6th Grade ERP students visit Food Country in Saltville, VA |
CMS ERP students took a trip to Food Country in Saltville, VA on October 8, 2015 and looked at the elements of Culinary Math inside their deli. Store Manager Brandon Gates walked students through the importance of time and profit margins and how they decide what is the best methods for turning profits. Looking at everything from daily menus, seasonal items, cost of operations, gross profits, and bottom line profits, we learned that there's more to the deli than what meets the eye. Mr. Gates also broke down how they are able to recognize the percentages of cost and profits each week, as well as identify why and how time and quantity of both items they're selling and employees working plays a big role in overall profits.
